In other news, I felt like a totally normal mom yesterday, because I made E a grilled cheese, (using Earth Balance instead of butter & rice cheese.) I've bought fake cheese before, and it was terrible. But going on a tip from a friend, I gave Vegan Rice Cheese a try. It was tasty!

Storytime & Fake Cheese

I read through your other posts about E's allergies, and wow! I must say I am impressed with your research and diligence. It's a good reminder to me to be more disciplined about my own diet while nursing.
rice cheese is good? that makes me soooo happy. except for the sliced soy cheese (forget the brand, it's in a green package) i haven't found anything that melts worth a crud or doesn't kinda feel like eating colored rubber.
oh, and what do you think of the cd?
That's so cool. I'm sure it's nice to discover new options for his diet!
Too cute. I can not believe he sat still long enough to let them paint that little pumpkin.
hey carrie! your son is so adorable. i was looking at your older posts and was really interested in the autism posts. i just went for my daughter's one month check up today and wanted to cry. i'm so stressed about these vaccines. i told him i didn't know how comfortable i was with her getting vaccines now and that maybe later would be better. he made me feel like i wasn't interested in her well being. i just wanted to understand the vaccines more before she has them put in her little body...is that so bad? sorry for the long post
i think it is odd that parents are questioned for being curious about the stuff being put into their kids. do a search on thalidomide...seemed safe at the time. you should wear a t-shirt of lemmings running off a cliff next time you go in.
I'm impressed that he sat still for that. I'm not so sure Sophie would!! I miss Wild Oats... :(
Hey Carrie, can I get that rice cheese at Wild Oats or did you order it online? I'm very excited to see that.
I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you at the wedding but I bet our paths will cross again.
You asked about my theories on Luke's autism. I think Luke would have always been a "late bloomer" and a quirky kid. But I wonder if something triggered his full-blown autism. I have suspicions about his 15 month vaccines. He was getting over an illness at the time and I asked the doctor if we should do the shots. His response, "These shots don't challenge the immune system as much as people think they do." Those words haunt me now.
Since then Luke has had more unexplained fevers than I can count. We've been to the doctor so many times and get the basic, "If it goes away in a few days, don't worry about it." But a fever every few weeks with no explanation?
I also wonder if he could have a yeast problem due to antibiotics. We're now doing probiotics and enzymes to help his gut. We're also doing bloodwork this week to test for yeast, heavy metals, and other things.
If I had to do it again, I would opt for a slower immunization schedule. I'm not convinced there is a link, but I'm not convinced there isn't. I'm thankful for all the publicity this topic is getting in the national media. More parents questioning what they're putting in their children can only help.
