Lance used to laugh at my affinity towards wooden toys, calling me old fashioned. Truth be told, it was the abundance of neons and bright colors that made me not like plastic toys. But now that all this craziness about toys made in China has popped up, who’s laughing now, huh? A while ago, The Angry Chicken had a good post about this (read it!). Among other things, it suggests making your own or buying handcrafted Items, or buying from a fine purveyor of wooden toys. When it comes time for Christmas shopping, you may want to check out these guys. Very pretty stuff.

Hey - I just wanted to let you know something. And it is totally off-topic, but I thought I'd share. Jack got his flu shot today, or rather his flu SHOTS. I asked my doc about preservatives (thanks to all your info) and they told me the same thing you were told - not preservative free, but not too much preservative either. I asked if there were other options and there were.
The doctor said Jack could receive two infant doses of the vaccine (which IS preservative free) if that's what I wanted to do. So, feeling HORRIBLY about making my sweet son endure it, I opted for 2 shots instead of one.
He really didn't even seem to notice the second needle, as he was still trying to take in the fact that he had just received the first shot, so it really wasn't that bad. We went out for ice cream afterwards, mainly to ease my conscience.
I just wanted to let you know in case you were still undecided - this might be an option for you or for one of your readers!
