Thanks so much for the ideas thus far. I haven't tried the straw, but have tried a variety of sippys. Here's Ethan with a few of the test subjects (avent, playtex & first years. we do have nuby & others) I should probably clarify - Ethan DOES like the sippy. He likes to throw it, to shake little milk drops everywhere, to hide it in cabinets, etc. Just not drinking from it. You have all made me feel better about him not dying of thirst. Another problem is that this was our bedtime ritual. So I guess I will have to transition that as well. I guess I'll just keep buying & trying different types of cups & straws! Plus add a little patience to the mix!
Any other ideas or encouragement, Please post!! Moms/Dads, when did your little ones completely give up the bottle?

Sam - the night before his 2nd birthday. I didn't deal with it sooner because I was so overwhelmed with having two kids under two!! I was so stressed about the transition and he totally didn't care the next night!!
Emma - around 18 mos. Not an issue - she would do anything to be like Sam!
Tessa - never took a bottle regularly (just when someone else fed her.) Nursing to sippy around one year.
The moral of my story is...everything is easier after you go through it with the first kid. Or maybe you're just more wiped out. :)
I'm no help. Em took a sippy right away -- as soon as she was able to hold it. She had her last bottle the night before her 1st birthday. BUT she is the easiest child I've ever known... most of the time! Good luck, and don't worry. Every child is different, and he'll do it when he's ready.
Sophie quit using her bottle at like 10 months I think. (It's crazy that it's already hard for me to remember.) I started introducing a sippy cup really early b/c my friend did with her little girl and I was afraid Sophie would be the child that wanted a bottle when she was 3! It was our bedtime ritual for her to fall asleep with a bottle too and I remember worrying about that as well!! They adjust though, and so do you!! Good luck.
i'm with you on the sippy-challenge! and i'm sorry to say that ben and drew have taken their breakfast and nighttime milk out of a bottle until about a week ago. i know, i'm horrible. but they are alive and healthy and got the calories that they needed. i finally decided that they'd do it when they got ready to. and they did very happily. ethan will too. i just kept offering them differnt types of sippy cups and let them figure it out. the throwing/shaking/pouring-it-everywhere-and-playing-in-it thing is universal, and darci and i are discovering that it's probably just because he's ALL boy. there's not much any of us can do about that one. good luck! and don't worry: you're in good company!;)
