The Challenge

Here's my self-proposed challenge. ONLY Have enough clothes, dresses, socks & underwear to fit in THIS closet and THESE drawers. It should be easy enough, since I'm not working professionally, so really only see my hubby & son on a daily basis. But it's not! I have found that I'm a keeper of stuff. It's not like I even buy clothes very often; I just keep the ones I've got forever. Most of my stuff doesn't even fit me well - since I've fluctuated within 20 pounds (non-pregnancy times) most of my adult life. Why is it that we women want to keep clothes in case we lose/gain weight again?! Anyway, I don't know if I can do it, but this is my challenge. I hope I can do it!

i hear you. somehow i have SO many articles of clothing in my life, and i'm not even a "fashion-y" person. i don't know how it happens. and my house is old with small closets, so i have a lot of stuff scattered about. i'll run across things from high school and think..well, i MIGHT wear it. (but NEVER do.)you're smart to get it organized from the beginning! :)

ooh girl! I have been constantly trying to "pare down" everything here at my house, so I can sympathize with you on this task! So, when those nagging thoughts of "Maybe..." or "this might work if..." start buzzing around, just swat them away like pesky flies and JUST DO IT. Toss it! Give it! (I'm giving myself a pep talk here 'cause I've got to go tackle the boys room.) And if you find yourself longing for something to wear that you don't have, then just go buy it at TJ Maxx, or you can come over and borrow it from me!

David and I are in this process as well since the oppurtunity to give clothes to church is avaibable right now. I, too, have the struggle of thinking what if I loose/gain weight (especially now that I have been pregnant and have seen all the in-between stages that I have gone through and long for something that fits!). I appreciate Amanda's advice to just get rid of it if I think "maybe."

Ha! I am in the midst of packing right now and I have VOWED to no longer being a pack rat! I keep stuff thinking I will use it "someday" and of course I never do. Now here I am having to go through mounds of clothing, shoes, house stuff, etc! I am quite miserable at the moment!!! :) I am having a huge moving sale tomorrow and getting rid of tons, tons, and tons of stuff. You might know of an organization that would take whatever I don't sell at the garage sale off my hands. Do you know of any? I guess Goodwill would take some things, my mom mentioned the Kidney Foundation. I need to look into that one. Good luck with the closet!

I am in a constant state of purging. Just two weeks ago I, proudly, got rid of lots of things (clothes and shoes) and got my husband to do the same...he's a worse packrat than I am. The Wounded Veteran's Association came by and picked it up. My closet is so clean and organized. I love it so much I think I might like to spend lots of time in there because it makes me happy. I love feeling organized!!!

Amanda - if no one else, I would. Also, my 100 list stated that I'm a big fan of borrowing, so if you ever need to borrow something, or even want to trade some clothes for a few weeks, let's do!

Hey, I would do a clothes swap!

I would love to do a clothes swap also!! I have been given some VERY nice clothes and always pass over them when I gather things for Goodwill. I just feel they're too off-beat to be appreciated among all the stained T-shirts. :)

I would be glad to help organize the swap although my house is not centrally located.

My only problem is that nearly all the clothes are divited between 20+ sealed boxes of clothes marked "garage sale." As much as I would be delighted to give or trade them, there is no getting to them anytime soon! But boy, did I get rid of some clothes! I'll let you ladies know when I'm starting to organize the garage sale stuff & you can come look through it.
