I do not like to take medicine. If I take anything, my husband knows I am feeling R-O-T-T-E-N. Thankfully, I have remained healthy this winter, even though others in my family have gotten sick. Last night, I decided to whip up some homemade cough syrup. I don't have a cough, but it's stocked away in the fridge in case we need a little boost! All of these ingredients are known for their health benefits, so I might just take a teaspoon every day for good health. You can't do
that with any old cough syrup!

this is great. i just recently threw out a bunch of cold/cough medicines. fortunately, it's been so long since any of us were sick, that they were all expired.
You seriously amaze me and I am seriously excited about this. We aren't big medicine takers ourselves, so we will have to try this when we have sore throats!
You should try a 'hot lemon' drink to get your vitamin-C dosis for the day. Davy loves to drink this throughout the day. It really isn´t so sour. Take the juice of half a lemon. Add 2 teaspoons of sugar and add hot water but not boiling or the vitamins are destroyed. Only drink one a day!
I have also given my kids onion remedy for their cough. I think it really works. It takes a day or two longer to help their cough loosen up but it is less harmful over time. Got many more things I do when they are sick! Great alternatives to try before to seeing the doctor! :) I don´t like to drag my three little ones there.... too many germs
I'm reading the Green Pharmacy's Guide to Healing Foods right now. I can't say if all the tips work, but it's definitely interesting. http://www.amazon.com/Green-Pharmacy-Guide-Healing-Foods/dp/1594867135
We are big believers in the raw honey and lemon thing here. We've not used cough medicine in years.
We add chili powder and vinegar for a sore throat. it's horrid tasting, but works. funny thing, at our pediatrician the other day we saw a flier on the wall about the flu and it recommended honey and lemon for cough. it said that it shows more effectiveness than any cough medicine. Made me happy to see that!!
