Squash & Goggles

Well, if it works for Heather & Jodi, then I thought I'd give it a go. And what do you know? Goggles really help out when cutting onions! Unfortunately, I got them from the dollar store and they broke immediately after I took them off.
Okay, new question...Anyone know if this squash is edible or decorative? I have no idea what to do with it. Please excuse the silliness.

Note: After a little research, I think this is a Cushaw squash.

Definitley edible! Try
sauteeing it in some butter or olive oil;)
Oh, and the goggles are hilarious! Another trick for cutting onions tear free is to use a REALLY sharp knife. A duller knife smashes the onion a little causing the chemical in the juice to mist out into the air causing your eyes to burn. A sharp knife makes a clean cut keeping the juices where they are supposed to stay, in the onioin or on your cutting board.

I love the serious look on your face as you wear the goggles!

Good idea...googles. I have also heard using a slice of bread, you just put it in your mouth as you slice.

I've tried it all...slice of bread, sharp onion, candles nearby, turning on the vent, etc. GOGGLES is the first thing that works!

hey, try soaking the onions in cold water and then cutting them. That helps me when I have to chop up a lot of them. :)
Or take a sip of cold water but don´t swallow it. Spit it out when you are finished cutting up the onion. my brother does that in it has worked for me as well. It sounds rediculous but who cares if it cures the tears, right?!

Love it!

I'll have to try Julia's water-in-the mouth thing next time.
