I just planted asparagus today! (not my asparagus pictured above) Kitchen Gardeners says that you can't eat it for a few years, after that, it will harvest for 20 years! We're planning on staying put for a while, so that's just fine by me. Low maintenance - that's my type of gardening. Anyone ever planted asparagus?

How do you know when it is ready to begin being eaten?
No, but I'm thinking about it this year. I think in Animal, Vegetable, Miracle she says you have to grow for 3 years or so, and then you have to cut every day when it's ready to eat.
We planted it this year also. We were told that we would be able to eat it next year. Also, that if you want to make white asparagus you can put a bucket over it. That sounds crazy to me, but I do like white asparagus!
No, but I think it's yummy!!
lots of stinky pee around the brock house in oooh about 3 years...
ha ha! somehow, i knew lance wouldn't stay silent on the supposed effects of eating asparagus. :)
I should have known that the hubby couldn't be silent on that one. Not a mention of asparagus goes by without a commentary on it's stinky effect...
that's my lance! :)
