Something's Got to Give

I'm running out of time in the day.

More babies means less time for certain things. So as I start out the year of 2011, I'm thinking of goals and priorities. One big goal: To run a Half Marathon. (Did I really just type that?) I'm exhausted thinking about attempting this. I ran a Half in 2007, and I know how much work it takes to train. And I only had one baby! Now I have 3 - one of whom is still nursing and just now sleeping through the night. So it seems like an insurmountable task. But Lance is supportive, and is willing to watch the kids & help me make it happen. We'll see how it goes. I will not feel bad about bailing on this one.

My next goal is not to be on the computer during my kids waking hours. I don't want my kids to be sucked into computers, tv and video games. And let's face it - they are taking in every bit of how I spend my time. So any computer work will be done during naptime & bedtime. This is also prime time for folding clothes, dinner prep, and countless other tasks which cannot be completed during the children's awake hours. So, that leads me to my next change of 2011: I will be blogging very little. I love blogging, and don't really think I spend much time on it. However, I'm trying to make every minute count. So you will be hearing less from me this year.

And finally, I will be taking less hot, long showers. If you know me well, you know that I'm not very good at leisure activities. Painting toenails, blowdrying hair, watching movies...I spend the whole time thinking of all the other things I could be doing with my time. Long hot showers are about the only time I can sit (or stand) still. But as I think about the way I spend my time, I realize that these need to go. Not to mention that the planet will thank me for conserving water. (But back massages. I cannot give those up.)

What about you? What are your goals for this year?

I am determined to do the half marathon. BUT- I don't have a nursing newborn either!!! Don't feel bad if you skip it!
Thinking about letting the blog go too, as sad as typing that out just sounded.

I'm with you on the no computer time during kids' waking hours (or at least most of them). And I'm planning to run the Kilimanjaro marathon next month! For me, the time training is a great alone time and gives me more energy for the busy-ness and fun of 3 kids! Definitely don't feel guilt if it doesn't work to run the half, but I bet you will find the training and running a great alone time too ( :

After 46 years of marriage, making my husband #1 priority and loving on him and encouraging him is my top priority this year. It's easy to let that relationship slip in priority as we think about all the other fun things to do and all of our self-improvement, self-realization projects, and other relationships. So far this has really been fun. Zoe

First off, let me say in stunned amazement... Your baby is already sleeping through the night???? Lincoln turns 2 in a week and we feel shocked when he manages to let us sleep all night.
Secondly, I'm trying to be more organized about household chores so that I actually create MORE down time for myself.

I don't want to hear less from you in 2011. Reading your blog and seeing Ethan, Katie Belle, and Jewell Louise is a great way to end the day. Love, Mom PS trainer Erin said you need to decide to do the marathon (half) and not be "iffy" or "maybe" about But she doesn't have 3 little ones either. Love, Mimi

Selfishly, I don't want to hear less from you either. I understand though... and I feel convicted about how much time I spend "piddling" online (looking at blogs, reading articles, getting on Facebook). This year I plan to continue to blog, as it is a form of journaling and documenting for our family. However, I want to spend less time doing those other less meaningful things online. As far as other goals go, I think I would like to work on getting more organized and simplifying our household. Less tv- or even no tv-might be in our future too. We'll see. ;o)

I really admire you and all that you do with/for your family and friends. I strive to be the kind of Mom you are. I feel overrun with exhaustion and get very little accomplished in a day. I always look forward to your blogs and your creative ideas. I would love to be a part of a creative Mom's group, or something, to get a chance to meet new Mom's and get some fun ideas for kids at home. Your kids are adorable. Good luck with reaching all of your 2011 goals. I am sure you are on your way.

Creative Moms Group sounds good. Could this be done on the blog? Zoe
