We have a couple of dear friends who are adopting internationally & I'm excited to follow their stories.
Jaime & Murray are adopting from Ethiopia.
Rachel & Darren are adopting from China. This Sunday we are remembering Orphan Sunday, so I'm thinking about ways I can support just a few of the 147 million orphans in this world. What about you? Are you adopting? Do you have thoughts on ways we can support some of the world's orphans? Do you have any thoughts on how to support friends who are going through this process?

a good friend adopted from ethiopia, another domestically and my niece was adopted from japan!! i know that being excited for the family is great and rejoicing over each small step that is accomplished...be it an initial homestudy or final immigration papers being completed, is a good thing. adoption is such a long emotionally draining process that i so admire those families who choose this path. Also, from my sister I know that several adoption agencies accept items such as baby blankets and things.
Some of our good friends are in Thailand this week "killing time" before they adopt in Taiwan on Monday!
We have some friends who are adopting here- it is a long, hard process to get the approval from their (and other's experience), but it varies so much country to country it seems. One way we support orphans is to support a place here that cares for children with the hope and plan that if possible, they can end up living with extended family members. So many 'orphans' here, are orphaned with their mother dies in childbirth or from HIV or something else, and the father feels helpless to care for the child (and/or cannot afford formula!). So this place will take in infants and work out visitation plans with the father or whoever so that the bond isn't lost and then hopefully (and many times!) they are reunited once the family is able to take care of them. Of course that's not always possible, and there are adoptions that are facilitated too.
I pray for the day that health care and HIV prevention and maternal morbidity rates change so that fewer children are orphaned and am so thankful too for all those who work so hard in those areas (or support those who do!).

You'll have a bunch of new ideas on Sunday!! Can't wait for everyone to find out what all we have been planning. :) On another note, we are hoping to one day adopt internationally with our top choice being India (the country with the most orphans in the world!).
Instead of sending flowers to most funerals we send a memorial donation to the TN. Children's Home. It lives on much longer than flowers and the famly feels good about it. My best to your friends and may God be with them.
Thanks for the houst out Carrie! Love you girl!
I meant shout out! :)
