Grocery Budgets?

Hey People. I've got a question for you! Would you participate in my little poll? How much do you spend on groceries? Because I go over my budget every month. I'm trying to determine what is reasonable for a family of 4. So if you are feeling bold, leave me a comment. Or, would you sign in as "Anonymous" and tell me how much do you spend each month? I'd also be interested in knowing how many kids you have, if you have to buy diapers or formula, and if you have pets included in that budget.

Thanks in advance!

We are a family of 4. A 3 year old and a 10 month old. My budget (not including formula and diapers) is $50 to $60 a week. I spent $44.32 this week.

We, however, have NO food issues in the house at all. I think that goes into consideration. Everyone eats whatever I serve. I do not cook special things for the 3 year old. No one has any allergies.

I put my menu on my blog every Monday. www.cmdfamily.blogspot.com

Good Luck with your budget. I have lots of weeks in a row that I get so upset because I go over every time and then other weeks like this one that I do well. It balances, I think.

We are a family of five. Kids are 13, 11 and 7. No picky eaters or food allergies.

Our budget is $150 a week; I usually stay within that. We eat 98% organic at home and eat almost no processed/prepared foods (even if they are labeled organic.) We eat out 1-2 per month. Hubby and kids take lunches to work/school.

Oh, and pet food does not come out of that budget.

We usually spend about $500 a month for the five of us. That's no pets, formula or diapers. It does include all toiletries, paper products, and cleaners. Basically everything except clothes. I know you're only asking about food, but I always get that stuff at the same time. I do use coupons and watch for sales, and occasionally I'll shop at Kroger and Publix. Oh, that also includes Sams. That does not include any eating out.

We are a family of 3, with a 3 year old (who eats non-stop). My grocery bill varies greatly from week to week, and I include all paper products, cleaners, pull-ups, and even some non-food items like crayons and markers for Rad that I find on good deals at Kroger.

I would estimate that we spend about $160 per month at the grocery store. I really don't budget much, but I do try to buy in bulk when things are on good sales.

That would be $160/week, of course, not $160/month, a mistake Carrie discovered after calling to marvel at my amazing shopping frugality!

We are a family of 3. My husband who is diabetic, a 20 month old baby and me. I budget $100 a week, but most weeks I go over about $20-$30. This is only for groceries, but does include a pack of diapers each week.

2 adults and a 75lb dog. About $100 a week depending, sometimes less, sometimes more. I also without fail run out of the big ticket items at the same time each month which will add about $50 depending on coupon situation.

We budget $230 a week, but usually go a little over. This is for a family of 7 with one still in diapers and one with multiple food allergies. This includes food, eating out, toiletries, cleaners, paper goods, etc.

We have 5 (as you know) and we just got down from 3 dogs to 2 and 5 cats to 2. (whew! Thank goodness!)
so, for all of us we spend between $60-$80 a week. But that is ONLY because I do all the shopping I can at Aldi and just go to Kroger for the stuff on my list that Aldi doesn't carry. We had also been buying diapers on that budget, but Emet just recently freed up that money for us to spend somewhere else! Woo Hoo!
Before I shopped at Aldi, though, I was spending between $120 and $150 a week on food.
(Oh, and my house is like buying food for three adult meals and two children...if that info helps any..)
I'm so interested in this as well, so I'm glad you asked the question -and I've been enjoying reading what others have to say.

Family of 4. We spend about 500 (more or less) every month. I don't use many coupons, but we don't eat extravagently, and eat mostly fresh fruits and vegetables.

I am very impressed with the responses you have gotten. I have no idea how you would feed a family of 4 on $50 a week! I would love to know more, however. Keep us posted on what all you learn!

Oh, keep the comments coming! I'm nowhere near the $50/week people. I can't even fathom, actually. My grocery budget includes everything you can buy at Kroger - diapers, toiletries, etc.

At least I've been able to cut down on the Whole Foods habit that goes along with the food allergy situation.

we are family of 4 (one in diapers) and through going to faithfulprovisions.com grocery class have been able to cut our grocery budget down to $50 a week including diapers and all toiletries. we stockpile whenever something we use goes buy one get one and use coupons. i also use southernsavers.com website to compile our grocery list with printable coupons. it takes a little longer for prep, but shorter time in the grocery store. it took about 6 months to get our budget to $50 a month, but has been wonderful. at harris teeter the other day i spent $43 and saved $99...it does help that i live in the grocery store meca right now with a new publix and harris teeter and the old kroger accepting competitor coupons to keep up.

Members at MyTotalMoneyMakeover.com typically follow a $100 per person, per month as a rule of thumb. That only accounts for food related items and not toiletries.
